What does the Bible say about humility?

The Bible has quite a lot to say about this subject, especially if one considers synonyms such as meekness and lowliness. The Bible also has a lot to say against the opposite of humility, pride. Here are some key verses.

14If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

This is a most beautiful verse and shows how ready God is to accept repentant sinners back who humble themselves and turn from sin.

Psalm 10:17

17LORD, thou hast heard the desire of the humble: thou wilt prepare their heart, thou wilt cause thine ear to hear:

23A man's pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit.

15For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.
