Use an ohmeter to test tesistance where the plug wires connect to the coil-it should read 12,000. now for the the primaray side where the signal wires connect to the coil should be 2-3 ohms.
when ignition is on it should be battery volts,when cranking in should pulse..(test with a led test light or osilliscope
Ford Festiva is car that is marketed by Ford between 1986 and 2002. The gap should be .040 on all V8 engines and the ignition gap for a 1998 5.2 is .040. There are no points in that vehicle. It has electronic ignition.
electronic ignition on the 93, no controll. just set your timing.
The dwell for the points should be 30 degrees. The spark plug gap should be .040".
Make sure you have only about 8 volts going to it not a full 12. There is a resistor wire that should cut the voltage.
