Wilson did everything in his power to try and prevent another global conflict...It was the treaty of Versailles, itself, which led to the conditions for WWII. Had America been apart of the League of Nations as Wilson wished, it would have had the near global support needed for such an organization. With no America, it became the League of European nations, essentially, and after the horrors of the first world war, Europeans were in no mood for another European conflict by 1936, which led to the allowing of German expansion, which in turn showed Hitler that he had quite a free hand in military affairs for quite some time.
The Battle of Bunker Hill showed that the American forces were capable of standing up to the British army in battle. They fought bravely and were able to inflict heavy casualties on the British. However, it also highlighted the superior discipline and training of the British forces, as they eventually captured the American position despite suffering heavy losses.
Vietnam showed the world that the US would sacrifice it's blood to stop the spread of communism. It also showed the world that it could lose a war.
The Europeans gave them things such as metal pots, knives, guns, etc. The First Nations gave them medicine, fur, and showed them how to build canoes, and helped them build maps, etc.

It started even before Washington was president, The American victory in the Revolution impressed the European countries to some extent. Jefferson gained respect for defeating the Barbary pirates. Monroe showed Spain in particular and all of Europe that the US was supreme in North America. McKinley showed that the US had a strong navy.

They broke a major defensive point to enter into Germany itself, and showed that the allied forces had a tougher and stronger resolve to press on than the German army had resolve to defend their country's own border with Belgium.
