What are some questions to ask Hamlet?

Some unanswered questions in Hamlet are: Does Hamlet truly go "mad" or is it all an act? Does it matter? Why doesn't anybody dislike Claudius even though he's a murderer? Did Gertrude play a part in Hamlet's father's death? Does the ghost of Hamlet's father tell him not to blame Gertrude, Hamlet's mother? Does Hamlet love Ophelia? Is Hamlet in love with his mother? If he is in love with his mother is he also still in love with Ophelia?

Who interrupts Hamlet as he confronts his mother in her room?

Mostly it's not so much of a discussion as Hamlet berating her. She thinks that she is going to give him heck for disturbing Claudius, but it soon becomes apparent that the shoe is on the other foot. He goes off into a long rant in which he abuses Claudius to her, and blames her for having anything to do with him. But she does not get angry with him, probably because she is digesting his remark "Almost as bad, dear mother, as kill a king and marry with his brother." At first she demands to know what he is talking about, but from his abuse of Claudius, she figures it out, and makes the connection with the Mousetrap play. She begins to suspect that Hamlet may be right about Claudius murdering Hamlet Senior. Then the ghost of his father appears to Hamlet, and Hamlet's rant is interrupted. Thereafter it is more like a discussion than a dressing down. The following topics are discussed: 1. Whether Hamlet is crazy. 2. Whether Gertrude should suspend conjugal relations with Claudius. 3. Hamlet's imminent trip to England. 4. What Hamlet is going to do with the corpse of Polonius.

Why is Hamlet suicidal?

Hamlet is suicidal because his father, who was very dear to him, had just been murdered by Hamlet's uncle, Claudius. Within two short months of his father's murder, Hamlet's mother, Gertrude then married that very same Claudius. This is the main reason as to Hamlet's suicidal tendancies but he is also very mixed up in his head due to encounters with his father's ghost.

What happens in act 1 of Hamlet?

The ghost of Hamlet's father appears to some guards. The guards tell Hamlet who says he will go watch for the ghost. Laertes, son of Polonius, embarks for France. Polonius tells his daughter Ophelia, who has been flirting with Hamlet (or maybe more, it's not clear), to give him the cold shoulder. The ghost appears to Hamlet, gets him alone and tells him that he was murdered by Hamlet's uncle and the current king, Claudius. Hamlet swears to revenge him then swears the guards to secrecy.

What warning does Laertes give his sister at the beginning of scene iii?

In Act 1, Scene 3 of Shakespeare's Hamlet, Laertes warns his sister, Ophelia, to be cautious of her relationship with Prince Hamlet because his intentions may not be honorable and he fears she could be hurt in the process. He advises her to guard her virtue and not give in to Hamlet's advances.

Was king Hamlet killed while he was sleeping?

The ghost says that he is stuck in purgatory because he did not have a chance to confess before he died. It would have been less cruel to have killed him as he stepped out of the confessional, but give Claudius some credit here--he's not going to kill Hamlet in such a way that Claudius was going to get caught. Claudius might have chosen a less nasty poison, one supposes. That would have been less cruel.

What warning does Laertes give his sister at the beginning of scene 3?

He warns her to watch out for Hamlet, because his protestations of love may be merely designed to seduce her.

Who Hamlet loves?

Ophelia loves Hamlet and is devastated by his rejection of her--it is one reason she loses her mind. Gertrude also loves Hamlet; this becomes apparent in the Closet scene, and her behaviour afterwards. Hamlet unfortunately does not return either of their loves with the intensity with which they give it.

What events happened act iii of hamlet?

Act 3 is a busy act in Hamlet. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern make a report to the king, and he and Polonius plan to spy on Hamlet. They place themselves in a hidden space with Ophelia as bait. Hamlet strolls along and makes his "To be or not to be" speech. He sees Ophelia and they have a very peculiar conversation which ends with Hamlet getting angry with her and accusing her of prostituting herself (figuratively). Ophelia thinks he has lost his mind ("O what a noble mind is here o'erthrown") but Claudius draws the opposite conclusion. That's Scene 1. In Scene 2, Hamlet meets up with the players, and after telling them how to do their job, asks Horatio to watch Claudius during the play. The play is then performed with Hamlet being terrifically rude both to the actors and to his fellow audience members. Claudius spots that the play is all to similar to his murder of Hamlet Sr. and demands that it stop. As he exits, Hamlet is exultant: the Ghost has been vindicated! Rosencrantz and Guildenstern show up and tell Hamlet to visit his mother. On the way, Hamlet spots his uncle praying. We hear part of the prayer and know that Claudius is feeling guilt for murdering his brother. Hamlet is about to kill him then hesitates, deciding to wait until Claudius is doing something sinful. Nevertheless he says he could "drink hot blood" and he is now going to give his mother a talking-to. In Scene four, Hamlet arrives at his mother's bedroom and begins chastising her. Polonius, hiding behind a curtain, hears and echoes Gertrude's cries for help. Hamlet, believing his moment to kill Claudius has come at last, kills Polonius thinking that he is the king. He then launches into a long tirade to his weeping mother, and is only stopped by the appearance of the Ghost. Gertrude is persuaded that Claudius is a murderer and agrees to help Hamlet, and Hamlet drags the corpse of Polonius off.
