Many battles of the Indian War also took place in Wyoming. The Indian War was the Native American's attempt to prevent settlers from intruding on Indian lands along with a response to violations of the treaties between the Native American tribes and the US Government.
Residents of Wyoming and the territories which eventually formed the state of Wyoming have participated in wars since the Mexican War in 1846.
