The Spartans were stronger, but Athens had a better trained army... I think. The Spartans were the "Navy Seals" of the Greek states. Roughest and toughest soldiers by far. But Athens was the best naval power of Greece.

not sure who their friends were but they HATED Sparta i know that
it was beter because their govnerment was democracy which means the people were the rulers no king or any body like that
It varied from time to time. At its peak it was 200 warships and 35,000 part-time citizen-infantry.
The difference is that they were in a war, of couse one lost and one won. Can you guess which one lost? a. Spartas b. Athens If you said Athens, you are correct. The athens ruled for many years. Then Sparta came and kicked their butts in the war! AncientGreekGirl :)
At one point it was Athens but they turned on Sparta.
