Australia did not fight back against the British Empire in a traditional sense, as it was a part of the Empire from its colonization in 1788. However, during World War I and World War II, Australian forces fought alongside British troops, which fostered a sense of national identity and autonomy. Over time, Australia moved toward greater independence, culminating in the Statute of Westminster in 1931 and the passage of the Australia Act in 1986, which severed legislative ties with the UK. Thus, while Australia did not "fight back," it gradually asserted its sovereignty and independence from British rule.
I think you mean The British Empire!?!The answer is 1/3rd of the world at one time or another was part of the British Empire. From 1750-1950 the empire included countries such as India, Canada, Jamaica, Thailand, South Africa, Australia, and many, many others, North America, including the now USA, was also part of the British Empire up until the War of Independence. This means that the peoples ethnic groups included White Europeans (in the UK, and settlers from Europe in Canada and Australia and others), Asians, Africans, Afro-Caribeans, etc. Pretty much every race and religion has been at some time governed by the British Empire.
The British Empire
The Australian flag has the Union Jack which is the British flag on the top left hand corner because the British colonised Australia, and the Union Jack symbolises Australia's continuing ties with Britain. Australia has no continuing ties with the UK having legally separated in 1986 with the coming into effect of the Australia Acts on the 3rd of March 1986 . The Union flag is simply a hangover from Australias colonial era .
For most people, this refers to the states of Australia uniting to become one nation. Australia achieved Federation, becoming the Commonwealth of Australia, on 1 January 1901. This is, in the classic sense, regarded as when Australia became a new nation. To go deeper, one can consider the following: Australia remained a Colony of the British Empire until His Majesty King George V proclaimed Australia a Dominion of the British Empire in 1911. Australia remained a Dominion of the British Empire until 1919. The historical evidence of Australia achieving nationhood status for the first time in 1919 following the end of WW1 is available for all to read in the 10 September and 1 October 1919 Hansards of the House of Representatives and Senate.
