The 'Wailers' were named that because they represented the oppressed peoples of the world who 'weep and wail' because of their oppressors. I heard that explanation in a documentary about the band; I forget where, though. That is the basic reason for calling them the 'Wailers'. There may be more to it, but basically, that's it!
