Christopher Columbus planed to sail to India to find a new trading route but evidently landed in the Americas instead.
The plan designed by Christopher Columbus to reach the East by sailing west is known as the "Westward Route to Asia" or simply his "Westward Voyage." Columbus believed that by navigating west across the Atlantic Ocean, he could find a faster route to the lucrative markets of Asia, particularly for spices and gold. This plan ultimately led to his discovery of the Americas in 1492.

Columbus wanted to go to to India,but he read his map wrong and so he actually came to North America,he thought that he was in India, so he called the people in North America, Indians
To get to India going West. He thought that he had actually arrived in India. He never knew that he had discovered a new continent.
Spain did not support him at first.
He wanted to sail to Africa but the king said no way you cant do that but Columbus did sail but instead he sailed to United Stats Of America .
He had a Portuguese pilot, so I don't think it varied much.
