Dick King-Smith is the pen name of Ronald Gordon King-Smith OBE, born in Gloucestershire, England in 1922.
He served in the British Army during World War 2 and then was a farmer for 20 years and then a school teacher before he started writing.

Dick King-Smith started writing in his 50s after retiring from farming. He published his first book, "The Fox Busters," in 1978 and went on to write over 100 children's books throughout his career. He continued writing until his death in 2011.
