Roman Catholic.

Edith Stein was Jewish by ethnicity, born in Breslau, (now Wrocław) in the German Empire's Prussian Providence of Silesia, and raised in the Jewish faith. By the time she reached her adolescent, she regarded herself as an Atheist.

After reading the biography of St. Theresa of Avila, Edith converted to the Catholic faith, and was Baptised on January 1, 1922. In 1933, Edith entered a Carmelite

Order in Colene. In 1942, Edith and her sister, Rosa (also a convert) were arrested and shipped to Auschwitz Concentration Camp. Edith and her sister were killed in the gas chambers, on August 9, 1947; Edith was 50.

Edith Stein was canonized in 1998 by Pope John Paul II, and is now known as, Saint Edith Stein.
