This is an extremely broad question. If you asked "What is England like now?" the answer could go on forever. It is implicit in the question that you want to know what was not the same then as it is now, and the problem is that almost everything was a little different--not a lot different, but a little. There were fewer people in England, because there were fewer people in the world as a whole. They didn't have electronics, or internal combustion engines, or flush toilets, because these technologies had not been invented. People did all the things that you use electronics and internal combustions engines and flush toilets for, but they did them a little differently. They spoke kind of the same language, but it would have been with a funny accent and in a strange sounding dialect. The air would have smelled less of smoke and diesel fumes and more of manure. People didn't bathe as often as they do now.
