The Japanese where stunned and shocked by the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The extent of the damage and the manner in which it was inflicted (one plane, one bomb and one horrendous blast), left them reeling to comprehend the possibilities and looking for a defense against similar attacks. It took the second attack to make the (same) point, and the Japanese then surrendered.
On 15 August 1945, Emperor Hirohito, who was the leader of Japan during the Second World War, announced surrender in a radio broadcast. Later, on 2 September 1945, Emperor Hirohito formally surrendered in written agreement.
Tha Japanese milltary was baffeled by the power of the Atomic Bomb but still they were not affraid to continue to fight the U.S. But after the second detonation over Nagasaki the Japanese milltary was crippled and it's people were no longer willing to fight. The Japanese quickly agreed to an unconditional surrender.
They assessed the situation. After the second bombing (Nagasaki), the assessment was completed. They complied with the terms of surrender.
Believe or not most Japanese got it like a blessing from god since they were tired of the war.
Initially stunned shock as they had no idea what had happened. By the time they were coming out of that initial shock Nagasaki had been bombed and it was fairly clear more bombs were coming.
