He is the cornerstone of the Christian faith. To Christians, he is their God and Savior. They believe he died on the cross to save mankind from eternal damnation. In Christianity, Jesus is more than God, he is a friend, he is a father, he is their lover. Christians have a personal relationship with him.

Jesus was never mentioned in the Old Testament, which was written before the time of Jesus. He was, however, the central character in the New Testament, in fact the reason for the New Testament.

Our Blessed Lord's role was to teach the Apostles, establish His Church on St. Peter, and send the Holy Spirit to guide it always. In addition, He remains with the Church, physically present in the Sacraments, particularly the Most Holy Eucharist. Above all, He guides infallibly the successor of St. Peter - the Pope - in Rome in the teaching of faith and morals.

Jesus came to establish the Church (a continuation of the Congregation of Israel see Acts 3:25): "I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it" (see Matthew 16:18). It is often (about a dozen times) called "The Church of God" in the New Testament. It is for the 'little flock' now who will become 'the Bride of Christ' but will eventually include all who repent and accept the sacrifice of Christ, baptism and following Jesus to the end. For the Church is now part of/grafted onto the 'Israel of God' (see Romans 11:17; Galatians 6:16).

Jesus, being the chief cornerstone of the Church of God, formally sends out His Apostles who had just received God's Holy Spirit to begin the promise of building His Church on the 1st Pentecost in 31 AD. This may be read in Acts 2 as the closing of the 1st century AD has them travelling as far West as the British Isles and as far East as India (North to parts of Europe and South to parts of Africa). Today, though mixed with many other interpretations of 'Christianity,' it is worldwide.

Today, the Church of God is composed of disciples (means to imitate) or students of Jesus Christ. They meet to receive God's instructions (see 2 Timothy 3:16-17) using The Bible and not manmade writings as their textbook or guide for the road of life via preachers - duly appointed elders of Jesus (see Romans 10:14-15; 2 Timothy 4:2). These preachers are held responsible for accurately presenting the truths of God (2 Timothy 2:15) being themselves, examples of Jesus to the flock (1 Peter 5:13; 1 Timothy 3:2-7). These members are tied to the return of Christ for their salvation as Children of the God family.
