It was always N.J .When there was the 13 colonies....N.J was never there. But the name is from the English city.....Jersey

Try again.

1. New Netherland

2. New Sweden

3. Nova Caesaria after the English theft of 1664.

4. West Jersey (capital Burlington) and East Jersey (capital Jersey City)

Queen Anne united both West and East Jersey into one colony with a capital at Robert Trent's Towne - Trenton

and Jersey comes from a Channel Isle of the same name, NOT an English city.

I think the name was taken from the British island of Jersey. In the same way "New York" was taken from the English city of York.
