Nelson Mandela worked as a mine guard, was an articled clerk with a law firm and became a lawyer. As a yound boy he was a cattle herder.

He studied law and was trained as a lawyer. He and his friend Oliver Tambo opened up their own law firm and where one of the only black lawyers in South Africa at that time to defend their own people under the law of appartheid.

During his imprisonnment he acted as an attorney for fellow prisoners as well.

After he gained fame as a political leader and activist he was bestowed with numerous awards as well as honorary degrees from a number of universities.

He was a political activist and considered a terrorist by the (apartheid) government of the time. He was jailed for sabotage for 27 years.
