Osiris is the God of the Underworld. The myth of Osiris is the main reason why he is famous. It is said that he was murdered by his brother Seth. He cut him into pieces before hiding them in 14 different locations. Osiris' wife Isis discovered the pieces and put them together to make the first mummy.
Osiris was known as the god of the underworld. The myth goes that Osiris was the original king of pre-dynastic Egypt. His brother Seth was jealous of his power and made a special chest. He invited Osiris and some other gods over and told them that whomever fitted into the chest could keep it. As Seth had made it especially to fit Osiris, when Osiris stepped into the chest it fitted him perfectly, and Seth locked him in the chest. Seth then pushes the chest into the Nile, where it floats away. In earlier myths Osiris drowns in the Nile, while in later myths Seth dismembers him. Osiris' sister-wife Isis, searches for his body, and 'brings him back to life' long enough to become pregnant with their child Horus. The struggle for the rule of Egypt continues between Seth and Horus, while Osiris becomes the king of the underworld and the judge of the dead.
