As in almost every aspect of comparison, the difference between the education of the warlike Spartans compared to the education of the philosophical Athenians is like comparing black to white.
Girls were taught reading and writing. They were expected to take part in athletic events like foot racing. Male and females were expected to have a perfect body. The girls were taught Wrestling, gymnastics, and combat skills. They believed strong women produced strong children.
Boys ages 7-18 were sent to military school and trained hard. They were away from their familes during this time. These training courses were hard and painful. They weren't fed well but were taught that you could steal, as long as you didn't get caught. If you got caught, you were whipped.
I hope this helped. :)
If the boy was healthy, he would be taken to a school for battle at an early age, if not he was killed when he was born, so pre mature children are dead, and so from age 7 onward they were practically in a military school.
