Stephen King sold his first novel "Carrie" to Doubleday in 1973 when he was teaching high school English at Hampden Academy in Maine. He has since written over 50 books.

His first novel was Carrie. I believe it was published in 1977. He wrote many short stories for various publications before that though. One of which eventually became The Gunslinger,one of my favorite novels of his so far.
