The reason for founding the colony of Connecticut was for more religious and economic freedom. Thomas Hooker founded this colony in 1636 in Hartford when he and his congregation left Massachusetts after a disagreement with Puritan leaders.

Hartford, Connecticut was named after Stephen Hart, who came to America in 1604 from England. You can search him on Google. Yes it was Stephen Hart, and he was my anscestor! His full name is actually Stephen Deacon Hart, and he has a book published on himself. It was named aftrr him because he crossed a ford in Connecticut.
