Light, of course. Before the lightbulb was invented getting light at night was very hard. Candles, gas lamps, and fireplaces were used for light. People thought of night as a separate time and that the night air was bad for people. There was no night sports or street lights so when a person went anywhere for thousands of years at night they had to know the route. Not knowing could mean death since bridges, ditches, and other dangers were unknown to the traveler. Today everywhere we go has light. Just imagine what it was like when there was no light and today people get very upset when the power goes off because we depend on it for everything.
