The pharaoh's role was to uphold the balance of Ma'at. Ma'at was the Ancient Egyptian concept of truth, balance, order, law, morality and justice. Consequently it was the pharaoh's job to uphold Ma'at and to pay homage to respective Gods. A life of upholding Ma'at meant a secure future in the afterlife.
