There are certain things that you cannot learn without apprenticeship how much you are told, explained or instructed. Further, apprenticeship is learning in real life situation - learning while doing. You gain authoritative knowledge - in a way it is an inheritance of skills. It primes your knowledge for execution if you have learnt it in schools - meaning in theory. With apprenticeship, one can perform even wihtout much theoritical knowledge. I have had two apprenticeship positions and was finally able to complete the last one! The main disadvantage is that you generally work the same full time hours as your co-workers but you get paid an apprenticeship wage, which is well below minimum wage. You might find yourself just cleaning and making drinks before you're allowed to do anything.
