A law suit was brought against the Topeka school district for not allowing Louise Brown to attend 2 nd grade in a school in the district. The case went to the Supreme Court and Thourgood Marshall represented the Brown's. Up until the case the clause that people could be segregated or kept separate and still be equal. Marshall argued that the very fact people were kept separate made them unequal. He won the case, but the people who didn't want Louise in their school were not done. The first day attending the school Louise had people yelling at her and she was placed in a classroom by herself with a teacher. The rest of her school year would be this way.
Oliver Brown was the named plaintiff, he was one of the parents involved in the case, but he was only one of 13 plaintiffs.
