According to the myths, your heart was weighted so you could get into the Afterlife. Your heart was put on a scale, and if it weighed more then a feather, you would not get into the Afterlife. If it weighed less then a feather, you would get into the Afterlife..

Anubis weighed the heart of the dead aginst the feather of Ma'at, the dead whom he had guided and protected in the Duat.
Well they beileved in the afterlife and they put ur heart by a feather to see if it was good if it was u were allowed passed the gates into the proper afterlife.However if you were not you were gobeled up by a monster.
Ma'at with help from Thoth weighed her feather and the heart of the dead. If the heart was heavy and outweighed the feather, it would be swallowed by Ammut. If it weighed the same the soul was allowed to go on to the afterlife.
Well when you died in Egypt you went to the Hall of Judgment on one scale and the Feather of Truth in another to see if you were good when you where alive, and how much honesty you showed when you were alive. The person who weighed your heart, it was the Anubis, the god of the dead. It's a little different from the Greek Myths, but Anubis was not ruler of the Egyptian Underworld.
