In 1876, the Statue of Liberty's arm, which was displayed at the Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia, was showcased to raise awareness and support for the statue project. After the exposition, the arm was returned to New York, where it was eventually incorporated into the completed statue on Liberty Island.
A forty-foot-high section of the right arm, with the hand clasping the torch of liberty, was sent to the United States and displayed at the 1876 Philadelphia exhibition marking the one-hundredth birthday of the United States.
