She was neither really good or bad, and it also depends upon your own take on what she did. Her nickname was earned because she made it her mission to make England a Catholic country once again, and in the process burned 281 Protestants. Some would say that was good, but others bad. There were also a lot of famines during her five years on the throne which led to revolts, but that can't be blamed on her. She tried to reform the currency, but that failed, and she later lost Calais, the last English hold in France. Lastly, Mary married the Spanish king Phillip II, and that was highly unpopular. Honestly it's probably best to call her reign insignificant and herself an insignificant queen rather than good or bad one. Aside from losing Calais and burning 281 people, anything she did during her reign didn't have a lasting impact on England.
