Family Background: Harriet Tubman was born a slave, but despite that hardship, she managed to remain in close with many of her family members throughout her life. She managed to run away to find freedom in Philadelphia, but she came back for several family members and led them to freedom, too.
Achievements: Tubman was a "conductor" of the Underground Railroad, and over the years, she led many slaves to freedom. She risked her life repeatedly to rescue others. During the Civil War she worked as a nurse and a spy for the Union.

Death: After a long life, she died in 1913.
