It depends on the branch. I went through Marine Corps bootcamp from May to August. Bootcamp was well worth it for me but it was a challenge. The Drill Instructors were relentless. All they knew was discipline and only accepted perfection. The training is physical and mental with the stresses on time and perfection. The first month was alot of mental challenges and we pt'd (physical training) alot. The next few weeks were spent mostly at the rifle range learning how to fire a rifle and the basics of rifle marksmanship; we also spent some time in field training during Basic Warrior Training learning basic combat maneuvers in day and night environments. The final weeks were a return to pt. Bootcamp ended with The Crucible. a 54 training exercise that included 50+ miles of hiking, about 7 hours of sleep total and three meals ready to eat (MRE's). Training exercises here were a culmination of all we had been taught from combat maneuvers to core values and teamwork. Alot of challenge but it made me a better person and I wouldn't change a thing.
