The indians were unhappy because they were trated badly. They were fed very little food and sometimes starved to death. After the Mexican War in 1810, the indians were treated a little better than before. They were gaven horses and a little more food. They were still unhappy because the horses they got were very old and sick. They sometimes tried to fight back and resuse to what the preists told them to. Two missions were burnt down. A indian tribe leader planned a revolt on the San Gabriel Mission. She was caught and was jailed as punishment.
They were treated very poorly. If they didn't obey missionaries, they could have been whipped. They were forced to believe in christianatity and be treated like slaves. Missionaries caught strong diseases that spread to Indians so they both died. The Indian's families were very depressed. Some diseases were small pox and measles and both were deadly. Missionaries thought they helped but it was just true cruelty.
The Native Americans on California missions worked the crops, took care of the mission herds and animals, did the cooking, maintenance, and repair work of the mission. Many were not treated right by the mission priests and there are mass graves located on many mission grounds. The Native Americans on the missions were treated more like slaves than free people.
