Life was pretty simple in 1898. There were very few bathtubs, telephones and televisions. Most people were born at home and their doctor never went to college. The average wage was about .22 cents per hour.
Life in 1898 was vastly different from today. It was a time of industrialization, urbanization, and Imperialism, with limited technology and communication. Society was stratified, with rigid gender and class roles. Many people worked in agriculture or manufacturing, and there were limited rights and opportunities for women and minorities.
The year 1894 was a great year. There were brass spittoons to spit in, and the fashion was unusual. People wore derby hats, leg of mutton sleeves, and other such weird fashions.
