There were three major things that were no more than minorly damaged during the December 7th attack:
(1) drydock and ship repair facilities of the Pearl Harbor Naval Base
(2) Oil and fuel storage facilities around Pearl Harbor and the airbases
(3) Army and Navy communication and cryptography centers in Honolulu.
It turns out that any one of these three was far more important to the war effort than the total loss of life and ships suffered in the attack.
Many American lives. That day, 2,402 were killed and 1,282 injured. Also, America lost 2 Navy battleships as well as 188 aircraft. The Japanese only lost 29 aircraft and 5 midget submarines, as well as 65 Japanese servicemen. After that day, and for the duration of WW2, we also lost our trust in Japanese immigrants. Luckily, we have that back now, though we will never retrieve those lives given for America. With, 3,684 injuries, it was a day that we will never lose from our memory.
