Scientists correctly predicted the impact in advance.
Kosovo. It was liberated from Serbia in 2008.
For 2008 NOAA reports that there were 296,499 "Cloud to Ground" strikes in Wisconsin, which is very near the average number of strikes reported from 1996-2008 of 302,5321 strikes per year. From 1992-1995 the National Lightning Detection Network lists that there were almost 22 million strikes in the United States per year. Additionally, for the period 2000-2009 there were 7 deaths caused by lightning strikes in Wisconsin. For the reporting period from 1959 to 1994 there were 194 injuries from lightning strikes reported.
the earth is continually bombarded by asteroid, comets and meteors you do not see them because they burn up in the upper atmosphere on impact ... there is an impact site in Mexico ... where it is believed caused the extinction of dinosaur ...
It is rare for astronomers to be able to see an asteroid that is going to hit the Earth, but it DID happen in 2008. The asteroid 2008 TC3 was seen about a day before it landed. The fireball was visible from airliners hundreds of miles away, but I do not believe that any actual impact crater has been located. The reason why it is so rare to see an asteroid before it hits are, one, most things that hit the Earth are pretty small, and difficult to see in space. And two, if it is going to hit the Earth, then the bearing of the object won't change; it won't appear to move across the sky, but just be sitting right there in the sky looking like a dim star. And until it gets really close, no one will notice that is getting closer and closer!
Possibly; that's still 15 years in the future. At this point (in August, 2011) we have no knowledge of any particular asteroid that's heading this way. However, the last time that an asteroid hit the Earth (in 2008) we first saw it about 16 HOURS before impact. This was a fantastic achievement, because scientists had NEVER seen an asteroid or meteoroid before impact before.
