Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal introduced social and economic reforms to fix some of the effects of the Great Depression. The Civil Conservation Corps, gave young men the chance to work in boot camps and send much needed money home to their families. The Civil Works Administration gave jobs to many people, and the Agricultural Adjustment Act provided relief for farmers.

One technique widely used was "priming the pump". This meant using federal money to stimulate the economy . Contracts for building dams were offered , example. The government alos hired people in the CCC, for example.
