They improved the drainage of the trenches to reduce standing water. They also instituted regular foot inspections, greasing of toes and changes of socks. Waterproof footwear also greatly helped.

∙ 13y agoNothing, soldiers had to stand up in muddy water, and when the foot is submerged in water for to long it rots. This is called Trench foot. Soldiers would need there foot to be amputated if it became extremely bad. Some soldiers died from trench foot
