Lysander Spooner, a major northern abolitionist, sided with the south, because Lincoln's war of northern aggression was so obviously against the constitution.
If you truly believe that Lincoln cared about slavery, then you have been suckered. Read Lincoln's writings !...not high school text books.

∙ 8y agoLincoln wanted to bring the seceded states back into the Union. He also wanted to prevent the Northern slave-owning 'buffer-states' from joining the Confederacy.
He did not acknowledge the right of any state to secede.

∙ 10y agoAt the beginning of the US Civil War, Lincoln's immediate goal was to end the rebellion of the Confederate States as quickly as possible to save lives and keep the Union intact. He called for a modest number of new troops to serve a short 3 months in as much he believed the rebellion could be halted in quick time.
