I went to school in Arizona...we had almost 30 kids in our class. It was quiet during class time, and we all did our work. We had tables to work at in the early years, desks later. The building was basic--asphalt tile floors, windows that opened and dirt on the play ground. We did not have play equipment, but could check out a ball for recess. We played jump rope, Kickball, softball, marbles and Dodge Ball. We had safety patrol to help keep order on the play ground and hallways. We walked or rode our bikes to school every day, unless it was raining when we got up in the morning. Teachers taught us without overhead projectors, movies, calculators and so on. We had class assignments to turn in and also homework.

In the 1960s, discipline was easily maintained in schools. It was disgraceful to be sent to the principal's office. Parents were always informed of bad behavior. Kids were expected to do many hours of homework and to come prepared. Many kids walked to school still, and kids might walk several miles each way.

For one thing they didn't have the type of technology we have today, no laptop's, mobile's or pod's. They were a lot stricter for instance if you talked to much they would often tape your mouth shut and they still used the cane.

It was pretty strict, you didn't get away with half the things kids do now.

Why is it that in high school that you were in the 80s and the class average is in the 60s but in college the class average is in the 80s and you are in the 60s?

The difference in class averages could be due to various factors such as the level of difficulty of the material, grading criteria, study habits, and the overall competitiveness of the academic environment. In high school, the content may have been more tailored to the curriculum and students may have been more closely monitored by teachers. In college, the material may be more challenging and students are expected to take more responsibility for their learning, leading to varied performance levels.
