Romulus and Remus were the sons of Silvia Rhea, the daughter of the deposed king of the Latin city of Alba Longa. A servant of their uncle, the usurper, put then in a basket in the river Tiber to save them form their uncle who would have killed them. They floated to a marsh near the Palatine hill (where Rome was going to be founded) and got caught by a branch of a fig tree. A she-wolf found them and suckled them. They were also fed by a woodpecker. They were then adopted by a shepherd and his wife and grew up as shepherds. They grew up in quite a rough way and they carried out raids on other shepherds.
