They sometimes put sawdust in the head to make it look more lively. Then the skin of the body was softened and smelled sweet. The embalmers, after they took the extras out, they would rub oils, spices, and perfumes on the skin to keep it fresh. They would take out the dead bodies eyes and put in glass eyes.
Once a body was confirmed dead it was stuffed with embalming fluid. This was to help preserve the body for the afterlife.
