Tilly at the Football Match - 1914 is rated/received certificates of: UK:U
No official match, but reference is often made to the terrible war conditions in the First World War 1914-1918. Fighting was stopped on Christmas Day as both sides were Christian and an impromptu football match between the two warring armies allegedly took place in No Mans Land between the two front lines of soldiers.

Yes during the Christmas truce. Read more in the linked article. The only things I am improving is the following 2 1. It was on 25th Dec 1914 2. It was called The Great War, not WW1 or even The World War.
It didn't.
It was during World War 1 that fighting stopped in the trenches and both fighting sides played football. It was called the Christmas Truce and took place in 1914.
They had a ceasefire, and played a bit of football.
Football, during the Christmas Truce in 1914
The Christmas Truce of WWI happened on Christmas 1914. British, German, and some French troops met in "no man's land" to sing Christmas carols together, exchange seasonal greetings and gifts, attend joint burial ceremonies, and play football.
They played football at Christmas 1914 which was just a few months after the war started. The Germans were singing silent night (the words are in German but the tune is essentially the same), then the British began singing along. After a while both sides began to climb out of their trenches and they met in no mans land, where they played football. The commanders of the army put a stop to this as soon as they could, and for the rest of the war there was never a truce like the one at Christmas 1914.
