During the 1940 Battle of Britain, the German Air Force waged a bombing campaign over Britain.
They did but not in the Battle of Britain that was just a bombing campaign
The German air war against the British during WW II was called the the Battle of Britain. The German bombing of British cities was called The Blitz - short for Blitzkrieg (lightning strike).
To keep them safe from German bombing or chemical attack.
During World War II, it is estimated that around 410,000 to 600,000 German civilians died due to Allied bombing raids. In Britain, civilian casualties from German bombing campaigns, particularly during the Blitz, were approximately 43,000. These figures highlight the tragic impact of aerial warfare on civilian populations in both countries.
The Blitz is the only one I know of currently. It was a failure of German bombing in London and other small towns.
Blitz comes from the German word "blitz krieg" meaning lightning war, it was the bombing of Britain during wwII. Yes, as above, the Blitz was the bombing of the British cities following the Battle of Britain in the autumn of 1940 & the first part of 1941. Blitzkreig was the combination of the use of panzer (Armoured) forces coupled with dive bombers & rapid movement through a spearhead (Schwerpunkt) attack.
The Battle of Britain was important in World War Two. Despite massive air strikes by the German Luftwaffe, Britain survived the massive bombing attacks. This gave confidence to the British people.
