The KdF ('Kraft durch Freude' or 'Strength through Joy', in English) was set up by the Nazis as a tool to basically make people work harder and longer. The harder and longer you worked, the 'better worker' you became. Every year, the best workers would get treats; like a dog doing a trick for food;. The treats would be things like holidays, cruises, concerts and days out. It was, in my view, incredibly successful. KdF quickly became on of Nazi Germany's biggest organizations. The official statistics showed that in 1934, 2.3 million people took Kdf holidays. By 1938 this figure rose to 10.3 million.
