Pyramids were made of limestone, but inside, above the burial chamber they put big granite blocks so that it was stronger. I do not understand who your 'tuts' refer to, but if you meant Thutmose or Tutankhamen, their tombs were hidden and cut inside cliffs in the Valley of Kings west of Thebes. In their time the tombs were kept in secret because all the grandious pyramids had been robbed before. The Egyptians believed in afterlife, so they put everything into the tombs that people used in their lives, including a lot of valuable things. This way they wanted to make sure life continued after death.
