Prior to the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy being implemented, the US Military could ask servicemen and women outright if they are gay and kick them out for it as the military services have had a long-standing policy of not allowing gay men and women to serve as soldiers.
Since the enactment of DADT, the government would no longer "ask" recruits if they were gay, but gays may only serve if they do not "tell" or keep their sexual orientation private and do not engage in homosexual activity.

Well I dont know why you dont like them if they arent mean or anything. So here is my suggestion: go right out and tell her/him: Im sorry I dont want to be your friend anymore. and if they ask why, tell them why. and this is important: PLAN THE CONVERSATION BEFORE IT HAPPENS! so like if she asks you why and you cant find words for it or just dont know, think about it before you tell her/him. thats what i did with my friend, who now is my worst enemy. =) I hope this helps you.
