At the beginning of World War I, the US assumed an isolationist policy which basically means that we refused to get involved. While remaining isolationist, the US tried to get the other countries involved to declare peace.

Franklin Roosevelt was the US President when the US entered the war. Lord Chamberlain was the Prime Minister of England at the beginning of World War 2. He resigned and Winston Churchill became the Prime Minister after him.
