Triple Entente
France first allied with Russia in 1891 with what was known as the Franco-Russian Alliance. Then, in 1904, France signed a "friendly agreement" (the Entente Cordiale) with Britain. Russia left the alliance and the war altogether in 1917, though, and the United States (upset with Germany) subsequently jumped in to aid the Allied forces.
The Triple Alliance was formed in , when Otto Von Bismarck formed a treaty of alliance AustroGermany to counteract from Russia and France.
Britain in WW I was part of an alliance known as the Triple Entente (entente is French for understanding) which also included France and Russia. The US later joined the alliance, helping to defeat the opposed alliance which was known as the Central Powers.
The Triple Entente linked the United Kigndom, the French Third Republic, and the Russian Empire in 1907, following the signing of the Anglo-Russian Entente. With agreements from Portugal and Japan, this alliance was a strong opposition to Germany's, Austria-Hungary's, and the Kingdom of Italy's Triple Alliance. In 1914, all three of the Triple Entente entered World War I as Allies against Germany and Austria-Hungary.
Germany declared war on Russia on 1st august 1914. at this time, Russia had a treaty with France and Britain, called the Triple Entente. this wasn't an agreement to defend each other, but an agreement to 'not argue'.
The Triple Alliance is also known as the Central Powers, particularly in the context of World War I. It originally consisted of Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy, although Italy later joined the Allies. The alliance was formed to counterbalance the power of the Triple Entente, which included France, Russia, and the United Kingdom.
The Triple Entente (also known as the Allies) was Great Britain, the France Republic, and Russian Empire. The Triple Alliance (also known as the Central Powers) was the German Empire, the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and the Kingdom of Italy. An Entente is a kind of alliance that is an agreement not to attack each other. The Triple Entente was made up of France, Britain and Russia. The Entente Powers fought the Central Powers during World War I.
The Triple Alliance, also known as the Central Powers, grew out of the close relationship that developed between the leaders of Germany and Austria-Hungary during the last tree decades of the the 19th century. In 1879, the governments of the two empires formed the Dual Alliance, a defensive pact that ensured reciprocal protection from a Russian attack and neutrality in case of an attack from any other power. In 1882, Italy joined the pact, creating the Triple Alliance. The Triple Entente, referred to as the Allies, originated in a series of agreements between Britain and France (1904) and between Britain and Russia (1907) that aimed to resolve colonial disputes. Between 1907 and 1914 cooperation between the leaders of Britain, France, and Russia led to the signing of a military pact in the summer of 1914.
The purpose of the European Grand Alliance was to defend the Electorate of the Palatinate from France. The Grand Alliance is also known as the League of Augsburg.
