it is an historicla monument and is mainly used as a landmark and tourristc spot. The inner rooms are impressive and the view from the top is wonderful. Under the Arc is also located the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and a ceremony is held each day there since he was buried here after WWI.

It is mostly a place for tourism. There is a museum inside, and a very nice point of view as it is located on the straight line from the business district of La Defense including:

- la grande arche de la défense,

- l'avenue de la Grande Armée,

- l'Arc de Triomphe,

- les Champs-Elysées,

- l'Obélisque de la Place de la Concorde,

- les jardins des Tuileries et l'Arc de Triomphe du Carroussel (a smaller one)

- the Louvre Museum and its glass pyramid.

Under the Arc is located the tomb of the Unknown Soldier. There is a ceremony each evening ("l'allumage de la flamme") held here since the 1920s, even under the German occupation.
