The back channel on the National Bank charter was that charter ran to 1836. But politics came in to tarnish the whole episode. Henry Clay the Whig from Kentucky needed an issue for his campaign. Clay brought it up to the surface by claiming the bank was ok. This was in hopes that Jackson would never veto such law, and strike a gulf between the two men and Clay believed he would have the better of it.
