You have the answer to this in Eclipse, the third book of the Twilight saga by Stephenie Meyer. When Rosalie was human, she was always admired by men since she was eleven. Rosalie always wanted a husband and some pretty children. Then came along Royce King. Royce king loved her, and he would send her roses as a token of his love, and when he said her eyes were like violets, violets arrived with the roses. Rosalie was to marry Royce King, and she would be queen. One night, Royce was out with his friends, in a drunk state, and when he comes along to Rosalie, he shows her off too his friends and eventually they all rape her. Royce was not the nice man Rosalie thought. Rosalie lay in the streets, close to death, when Carlisle comes and turns her into a vampire. As a vampire, Rosalie killed Royce's friends and Royce in a wedding dress, as a revenge, but didn't drink any of their blood. Rosalie has still never tasted human blood. Because of her human experience she is very bitter. Isn't it tragic?
