Japan had to give up their Monarchical Rule and establish a democratic government with an Emperor who was not the ruling leader. They also did not rebuild their Navy and Army to the same level they had during the war. They worked hard to restore their cities that had been bombed. Relations with the US slowly improved. Businessmen, scientists and educators came to Japan to help them with industry, business and medical or other scientific endeavors. They had to give up their warrior system that had been in place for centuries.
Democratic reform took place in Japan after World War 2. The US encouraged this and even sent money to aid Japan in the democratic reform.
